Welcome Stamp

A 12-month remote work visa created under the Remote Employment Act 2020, for people employed by, or working for, companies or clients outside Barbados. Employees, freelancers, consultants and business owners can all qualify.
Key requirements
- Expected annual income of at least US$50,000, shown through an employment letter, bank statements or tax returns.
- Health insurance covering the full 12 months, either international or bought locally.
Fees and process. US$2,000 for an individual or US$3,000 for a family, non-refundable and due within 28 days of approval. Apply entirely online; an initial response typically comes within 5 to 7 working days. The stamp can be renewed, with a discount on renewal.
Longer term. You may later apply for immigrant status (permanent residency), assessed on your qualifications and experience.
Special Entry & Reside Permit (SERP)

Who it's for
- High-net-worth individuals: net worth over US$5 million, plus US$2 million invested in Barbados or qualifying property.
- Retired property owners: property worth at least US$300,000, bought with foreign funds and not mortgaged.
- People with skills considered critical to Barbados' development.
- Parents or grandparents, aged 60 or over, of Barbadian citizens.
Duration. Apply at 60 or over and the permit is indefinite. Under 60, it's time-limited and renewed until you reach 60.
Fees. BBD $300 to apply, then about US$3,500 (under 60) or US$5,000 (60 and over) on approval. A fee of about US$150 per dependent is also reported.
Health insurance. Required. Sources commonly quote at least US$375,000 of cover under 60 and US$500,000 for 60 and over, but figures vary, so confirm the current amount.
Documents. Form B, birth and marriage certificates, certified passport copy, photos, police certificate of character, proof of funds, proof of property ownership (property route) and proof of health insurance.
Retired property owners can't get a work permit on this route. High-net-worth holders can buy one separately.

For people with a confirmed job offer from a Barbados employer. There's no self-sponsored route. Short-term permits last up to 11 months; long-term permits up to 3 years, renewable. Permits are tied to the specific employer and role.
Requirements. For long-term permits, the employer must show no Barbadian could fill the role, for example by advertising locally.
Documents. Passport, photos, a police certificate from every country you've lived in for 6+ months in the past 3 years, a medical form with X-rays, your CV and a detailed employer cover letter.
Processing. Roughly a week once the application is complete, though this varies.
Returning nationals & family

Returning nationals are Barbadian citizens (by birth, descent, registration or naturalisation) coming home after living abroad continuously for 10 years. You'll need proof you lived in Barbados at least 183 days a year before emigrating, and proof of the 10 years abroad, such as tax or social security records, or an affidavit.
Benefits. Duty-free import of household effects and one vehicle. To keep the concession, live in Barbados at least 183 days a year for 3 years in a row and keep the vehicle for 5 years.
Family members. Spouses, children under 18 and dependent parents of Barbadian citizens or residents can apply for dependent residence. Timelines vary, so confirm directly.
Investment routes
Investors apply through the SERP's high-net-worth category: net worth over US$5 million, plus US$2 million invested in Barbados or qualifying property.
Buying property alone doesn't give you residency, though it supports a SERP application. Barbados has no citizenship-by-investment programme: these routes lead to residence, not a passport.
